Shovel Knight: King of Cards is a master-class in platforming, design, pixel art, and much, much more. Offering a good amount of new content, as well as the all-new card mini-game, Joustus, you have an overall package that is hard not to recommend, even if good portions of this feel wholly the same as the original Shovel Knight and its successive releases.Shovel Knight: King of Cards Has Been Released. For those who are unfamiliar, Shovel Knight: King of Cards is a new Shovel Knight campaign released on December 10 of 2019. Based on its name, it should come as no surprise to learn that it is centered on King Knight’s rise to the throne. The final Shovel Knight campaign launched today, letting us play as the dastardly King Knight in King Of Cards, and so did its battle mode Showdown. These are the final two big Kickstarter stretch goal features that developers Yacht Club Games have been ploughing through since first launching their rad retro-styled platformer in 2014.
Issues with Joustus aside, Shovel Knight: King of Cards is easily the best piece of content that Yacht Club Games have released since the base game. The platforming is about as close to perfect as platforming can be, and while short, every second of the game is deliberate and necessary, filled with smart level concepts. Joustus is a bold addition as well and while it is somewhat limited in.
King Knight's mechanics are probably the least enjoyable of the bunch (although some of the special moves you attain along the way are pretty great) and I did not care for the card game, Joistus, at all, but you can have a grand old time with the game while ignoring it completely. I enjoyed a lot of the changes and new additions, such as the bite size level chunks and multitude of hidden exits.

It is no real secret that I love Shovel Knight. I’ve bought five copies just for myself and three more as gifts.
